PROTEST REVIEW * PROTEST AHEAD

What is happening here in District 4, is relevant to everyone who calls San Jose home.

GO FUND ME LINK

REVIEW:  in 2017 the people of District 4 in San Jose rose up, fought, and won.  The Noble location was found not viable for a homeless site.  2022, behind the communities back, with zero outreach to the people, children, families, schools, library, daycares, neighborhood associations that would be directly impacted, San Jose City Council put that same location on the table for consideration AGAIN and voted underhandly, 8-2 in June to build a 100 bed tiny home homeless camp on Noble.  Due to this betrayal, we are not moved by any words or promises; and push forward toward achieving Legal, Written, Signed Documentation that Noble Ave Perc Ponds are permanently removed as a potential site to build on AND Legal, Written, Signed Documentation that shows The Penitencia Creek Perc Ponds, Reach 2, have Dedicated Charter Park Status.  We do not want to fight this AGAIN in one or more years.  Our battle continues awesome neighbors, and our physical presence at the San Jose City Council Chambers, and our voices during open forum will be what earn us the victory.   See you on the 13th!

P.S.   As of today, Sept Aug 7th, 2022, Noble still shows as 'Proposed' on the City Council website, and as of today, Sept Aug 7th, 2022, after two promises and two postponements, there is STILL NOT AN ALTERNATIVE SITE LIST available to the public.

Moving Strong and Steadfast toward two crucial goals:

 away from library, daycare; off our wildlife park and water supply facility;
and at least a mile away from ANY schools, parks, daycares, libraries, nature reserves

2. Receive Legal Dedicated Charter Park Status for
Penitencia Creek Reach 2,  AKA: our beloved perc ponds

Green Foothills wants parks, open space and natural resources (such as creeks) protected. We are hopeful that one or more alternative D4 sites will surface that are much more suitable and not environmentally destructive.

Omar Passons responded today to note that the alternative D4 site list will be posted later in the week or early next week. I was also told by the D4 office last week that the city's determination, regarding whether the Noble Ave park is a park according to the City Charter, is still not complete. Green Foothills is awaiting the alternative D4 site list and the aforementioned determination to identify our next steps.

Also, it is my understanding that the San Jose All District Leadership Group (SJADLG) will be submitting a letter to the council regarding this matter. SJADLG is a consortium of leadership of the nine active San Jose leadership groups. My understanding is that the letter will note that it is not appropriate to take city park land for non-park purposes and to reject plans for Quick Build Emergency Interim Housing at the Noble Ave site or any park site.

DO WE HAVE A PARTIAL VICTORY!?!

 Dear Noble Neighbors,

CM Cohen has an announcement regarding the status of the Noble EIH site.  You can view it at the following link:  Noble Update    <------ watch the video! from david cohen

Additionally, the City Manager’s Office informed us this morning that they have made the following update to their website EMERGENCY INTERIM HOUSING - PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT

“The alternative site list will be posted soon, but not by 8/31/22 due to additional time needed to tabulate the results. Please check back on September 6, 2022. Thank you for your patience.”

Best Regards,

Stacey

Our initial reaction:

we have read the letter more than once.. read the links, watched the video.   it -sounds- from the video, like noble has been officially, legally removed.   -on the link to EIH info, it still appears as 'proposed'.

curious how much legal, official weight cohens verbal word/video carries.

curious how much the written promise to 'invest in improvements needed' to earn the dedicated charter park status'  -how much legal weight that carries.

curious to see alternative site lists Sept 6th..   or will it get postponed again,  -and how far away from ANY schools, parks, libraries are the other sites.

but I want to say it looks like we have one vital victory:  Noble found not viable (again) and removed from consideration for the tiny home site!

that's huge.

leaving all this for discussion at Tues library meeting: legal team and legal funds can be directed toward earning that dedicated charter park status, which equals permanent protection.  At the meeting we will have a mini celebration, and discuss our future strategies for securing charter park status.

cheers and amen!  xoxo Robert & Sandra

MEETING MON AUG 22ND & PROTEST TUE AUG 23RD

Hi Everyone, We would like to encourage everyone who can attend the meeting tomorrow, Monday August 22nd and protest Tuesday August 23rd to do so.

TOMORROW'S MEETING will be held at the Berryessa Noble Branch Library at 7pm. The library conference room was unavailable, so the meeting will be conducted outdoors in front of the library entrance by the pond. We will share the latest information on the park status, share strategies for getting our message out to more districts, share with each other ideas they may have and want to share, and discuss our plan for Tuesday's protest. If anyone has anymore "No Tiny Home" yard signs, that they were unable to distribute, please bring them to the meeting tomorrow.  We will make sure they get distributed.

TUESDAY'S PROTEST will be held at San Jose City Council Chambers (200 East Santa Clara Street, San Jose, 95113) at 630pm.  If you have one of those awesome "NOT ON NOBLE" T-Shirts, wear it. The shirts are being noticed. At our last protest, we were censored by the Council Chambers staff by lack of video coverage.  From 600pm to 645pm the video coverage was showing all of us in the audience.  At about 645pm video coverage was removed from us and directed only on the city council.  It appears the chamber's rules are that if any signs are raised above your head and or any clapping or cheering occurs, they will void any video coverage of the audience in attendance. So, we are encouraging on any shirt, everyone to write "NOT ON NOBLE" on a 3 inch wide, 18 inch long piece of masking tape and place the label across the back of your shirt (like when the football players have their name on the back of their jersey). This will give us exposure to the video coverage without raising our signs.  The camera and the public will read our message on the back of our shirts.  City council will see our shirts and signs from the front. Keep yours sign in front of you under your chin. When open forum starts the video coverage is only on the person speaking. This is when we can raise our signs above our heads 3 times together to support our neighbor speaking and sharing their heart felt message. As a reminder, we don't want to give them anymore opportunity to censor us, so don't clap or cheer, and only raise up the signs during open forum speeches. Remember to have a one and a two minute speech prepared. As always after all of our incredible neighbors have shared their speeches and the meeting/protest is concluded, exit the chambers, go to your vehicles, and do not have any conversations with any City Hall staff.  Lets fill up all the seats again. Our momentum grows stronger every day.

We will see everyone on Monday for the meeting and Tuesday for the protest.   Our community is united and it grows larger every day. Robert and Sandra
