MEETING MON AUG 22ND & PROTEST TUE AUG 23RD

Hi Everyone, We would like to encourage everyone who can attend the meeting tomorrow, Monday August 22nd and protest Tuesday August 23rd to do so.

TOMORROW'S MEETING will be held at the Berryessa Noble Branch Library at 7pm. The library conference room was unavailable, so the meeting will be conducted outdoors in front of the library entrance by the pond. We will share the latest information on the park status, share strategies for getting our message out to more districts, share with each other ideas they may have and want to share, and discuss our plan for Tuesday's protest. If anyone has anymore "No Tiny Home" yard signs, that they were unable to distribute, please bring them to the meeting tomorrow.  We will make sure they get distributed.

TUESDAY'S PROTEST will be held at San Jose City Council Chambers (200 East Santa Clara Street, San Jose, 95113) at 630pm.  If you have one of those awesome "NOT ON NOBLE" T-Shirts, wear it. The shirts are being noticed. At our last protest, we were censored by the Council Chambers staff by lack of video coverage.  From 600pm to 645pm the video coverage was showing all of us in the audience.  At about 645pm video coverage was removed from us and directed only on the city council.  It appears the chamber's rules are that if any signs are raised above your head and or any clapping or cheering occurs, they will void any video coverage of the audience in attendance. So, we are encouraging on any shirt, everyone to write "NOT ON NOBLE" on a 3 inch wide, 18 inch long piece of masking tape and place the label across the back of your shirt (like when the football players have their name on the back of their jersey). This will give us exposure to the video coverage without raising our signs.  The camera and the public will read our message on the back of our shirts.  City council will see our shirts and signs from the front. Keep yours sign in front of you under your chin. When open forum starts the video coverage is only on the person speaking. This is when we can raise our signs above our heads 3 times together to support our neighbor speaking and sharing their heart felt message. As a reminder, we don't want to give them anymore opportunity to censor us, so don't clap or cheer, and only raise up the signs during open forum speeches. Remember to have a one and a two minute speech prepared. As always after all of our incredible neighbors have shared their speeches and the meeting/protest is concluded, exit the chambers, go to your vehicles, and do not have any conversations with any City Hall staff.  Lets fill up all the seats again. Our momentum grows stronger every day.

We will see everyone on Monday for the meeting and Tuesday for the protest.   Our community is united and it grows larger every day. Robert and Sandra

Awesome Neighbors..  The Cohen letter that came out today does not mention anything about meeting with the city's lawyer and/or if the lawyer determined whether or not the Noble site is a dedicated charter park. Also, in the letter, these words "the most effective way to change the EIHC site selection from Noble is to find an alternative site in D4"   does nothing to guarantee the Noble site has, is,  or will be legally, officially, publicly removed as an option. The outcome from their meeting verifies we need to keep our momentum strong in getting our Noble site declared a dedicated charter park.  It is the only way to safeguard our future. Keep doing everything you can to keep our message strong and our team growing in numbers and alliances.  Robert and I passed out several hundred flyers yesterday at the Target Mall Parking Lot on McKee.  People are still just learning about this, grateful to learn about it, and ready to join us at the Chambers on Aug 23rd at 6:30pm.  We are in it to WIN IT!    Tomorrow we will post our strategy for the Aug 23rd city council chamber protest.   Start putting your 1 -2 minute heart felt speech together for open forum.  We are being seen and heard by the city council, citizens of san jose, our community, neighbors, our friends, our families, and especially our children.

 Blessings, Robert & Sandra

Dear San Jose District 4 residents,

During the August 3rd Rules meeting and the August 9th Council meeting, there was discussion

of future actions and potential dates for council discussion. These discussions may have created

expectations of specific future milestones. To be clear, the most effective way to change the EIHC

site selection from Noble is to find an alternative site in D4. My mission is to work with city staff

to select an alternative site so that reconsideration of the site does not have to return to council

at all.

My office has been working closely with staff ensuring all their efforts are focused on

evaluating alternative sites suggested by my office and members of the community. I am no

longer waiting for any determination by the city as to whether the Noble site qualifies as a

charter protected park. This action is simply not necessary to accomplish our mission.

We will continue to work with the City Manager’s Office to determine the viability of other

sites and all communication regarding these sites will come directly from the City Manager's

Office. My staff is also working on a Frequently Asked Questions section for our newly launched

website, and we will let you know as soon as it is live.

With the combination of your advocacy and my office's work at City Hall we are confident

that we will be successful. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with your

neighborhood to improve the park.

I thank you for your patience and partnership as we work together to resolve your concerns.

Encouraging regarding an alternative site; but does nothing to guarantee Noble off limits in the future.

GETTING NOTICED; GAINING STRENGTH; UNITING DISTRICTS

WE LOVE THIS LETTER. We have seen, read and felt, from the onset how city council tries to pit us against the homeless, and pit districts against each other.

ALL DISTRICTS ARE UNITED
 against having
tiny home developments
(densely populated caged tiny home sites)
on parks, near schools, libraries, or nature reserves.

We are aware -the evidence is already in:

tiny homes cause way more problems than they solve.

The high stakes and complex nature of our current homelessness crisis demands
that a new problem solving panel, a larger panel, with voices, experience, knowledge, from
a wider range of disciplines, be created.

The current trajectory by city council utterly destroys neighborhoods,
parks, open space, puts the safety of our children at dangerous risk
costs unjustifiable amounts of millions of dollars to create and
unjustifiable amounts to maintain.

all this destruction, risk and cost, so a small number of people can
be transitioned into subsidized housing.   that is not a success.  that is a preventable disaster.

if anything should be fast-tracked, it should be the people who are currently on the street for exclusively financial reasons  -fast track them into the subsidized housing you are ultimately providing.  or address this from a rent control perspective, if a 5 % increase pushes up to 2000 people on the street.  or subsidize their rent..   certainly if you can spend 15million+ per proposed caged tiny home site..
we can use this money to prevent extra unnecessary homelessness to begin with

and all this destruction, risk, and cost to build these densely populated caged tiny home sites,
still does absolutely nothing to address:

the drug addicted, mentally ill and/or homeless encampments
that currently plague our city, negatively impact otherwise successful small, family owned businesses, franchises, and exponentially creates toxic levels of trash, litter, debris.

so, worth repeating:

The high stakes and complex nature of our current homelessness crisis demands
that a new problem solving panel, a larger panel, with voices, experience, knowledge, from
a wider range of disciplines, be created.

and "Thank You!" D6NL   This letter speaks so
articulately, elegantly and intelligently for all of us!
